yeah you're so right!! and also. what's perceived as childish changes over time too. i know people from older generations who do share that same sense of not becoming An Adult the way that society expected them to but the expectations and goalposts were different back then too. it just sometimes feels like an unattainable goal.
you're so right on it being a trauma response like 100%, that is the reason i go back to things from my childhood. and it is nice to be in a position where doing that is relatively normalised, but the underlying contributors are fucked up. especially the commodification of nostalgia.
aa thank you, maybe i will write more about it at some point!! i feel like having grown up with nolanverse batman and then returning to it was just such a weird experience! the person i watched it with commented that it didnt feel like tdkr was a batman movie and i think that's so true. it's almost like a generic action movie that just incidentally has batman there.
