WARNINGS:
This spring, my brainrot has focused in solely on The Venture Bros. So I decided to rewatch the whole series and do a retrospective review of each season, covering character development, themes, and my opinion on the overall quality of the season. There will be a tier list at the end because I wanted to do the episode tier list anyway, and this seemed like the easiest way to do it thoroughly.
I’m eager to pick the show apart and see how it works, because I would love to write something even close to as good - something that might mean as much to me as this show does. If I’m critical of aspects of the show, it’s out of love for it, and a desire to be honest about its flaws.
Season 1 of The Venture Bros. is a pretty decent season. It’s rocky but it ends with a clear sense of direction and ambition. It’s probably something to watch in one bite, because there’s a chance you’ll just do what I did and give up halfway several times before realising just how deep the rabbit hole goes.
If you do finish the season you might discover what I did, which is that Season One is about… stagnation.
