my art year in review for 2024

hope you are doing good and having a good holiday season <3
this year... i don't have enough art to put into a monthly year in review. a nice shareable image for social media. really, I've been doing a lot of different things. many don't fit under visual art. previously, i just... nudged some art into different months if they were close enough to the next/previous month. but this year i literally don't think i have enough art to do that. we REALLY made stuff in bursts this year!
I had contemplated just making my own template that would fit multiple different mediums. but I think being realistic about what I was able to do this year could be a bit more helpful, in terms of not expecting a wild amount every single year.
this list also indicates to me how important variety is in my work. even doing things i LIKE too many times in a row feels like torture.
i was going to link everything but i am honestly so tired today that we will just have links for the 'most important' pieces. also, while i have included some music, i dont plan on sharing any here because... music obviously comes with the possibility of live performance (even on livestreams), so to protect my identity i don't intend on sharing any of it here. i hope that makes sense and is understandable. clearly i just need to create a virtual band or never perform out of a mask lol.
JANUARY
- wrote a poem that i performed at a spoken word night
- finished 2 drawings for festive selfship trades!
FEBRUARY
- finished a valentine's gift for my partner.
- made a LOT of art inspired by hazbin hotel. mainly vox art <3 <3 <3 the actual first piece of art was just a shitpost of sketches of different ways vox's cock could work, with the assumption being his cock was actually detachable and replaceable with various different models with different functions.
- wrote an entire vox/listener hypnosis script for vox which later got picked up and recorded by a voice artist. i was down BAD.
- i created my own self-insert OC to ship with vox, AND a second OC who was part of that OC's backstory.
- finished two backing tracks for singing.
MARCH
- made a vox amv lol
- more extremely horny art. stretching my fantasy porn muscles. lots of tentacles with vox, and also some brainfucking with otto from psychonauts. the brainfucking was actually a piece i had thought about doing back in 2021, but decided to redraw my original sketch because my skills had levelled up a lot since then.
- i went to a lingerie store and... bought some lingerie. honestly an extremely powerful moment to be a sex object of my own creation. it made me feel utterly gorgeous and doll in a way i had simply never felt before.
- finished another backing track.
- edited the first chapter of my novel.
APRIL
- i was beginning to formulate and distinguish my second self-insert at this point - the more grounded and close-to-me dollthing.
- i also drew toonshipping since my partner and i were rewatching ygo :D
- created one more backing track.
MAY
- i was deep into therapy at this point so it was a little difficult to focus on anything else except the multipager i finally released in june. but, you know. therapy was important and super helpful.
- formulated the story for a concept album which i am now writing <3
JUNE
- released my SEXY HUGO/OC COMIC!! literally 6 months in the making at this point.
- completed a full cover song that utterly shocked me because it was so... powerful? i guess? and stylistically true? in a way previous stuff was not.
JULY
- set up a big document to organise transcribing a bunch of my favourite songs so i can learn from them.
- transcribed that first song. it was awesome and super helpful. i didnt have time to do anymore but i really want to do more next year
- composed two original instrumentals.
- digitised my entire book collection.
AUGUST
- i wrote a giant blog post that i never posted but stemmed from reading a self improvement book and having a big bust-up with it.
- i started getting serious about a big opportunity i was recommended.
SEPTEMBER
- participated in creative clash and made 5 pieces of gift art!
- recorded a song i wrote back in 2020.
OCTOBER
- finished another backing track!
- realised i... did not want to apply for a big art opportunity i was recommended. felt adrift but also extremely free.
- did a bunch of OC and fandomy stuff in the sims lol
NOVEMBER
- one final backing track FINALLY done.
- wrote lyrics for a banger of a song on my concept album
- planned for a musical performance that ultimately never happened due to circumstances out of my control. but hopefully next year!
- came up with some OCs!! im still working on their designs now but i'm excited to unleash them next year hehehe
DECEMBER
- made a cute hugo/mat art piece for reverse clash. i didn't get around to any other pieces but i'm pretty okay with that.
- did lots of sketching in my physical sketchbook!
- literally crafted a personal theology from thin air with specific mythologies and practices. to me this is the absolute logical conclusion of performance art. so it goes here.
in total (i may have miscounted or in certain cases i have also counted some things i DIDN'T mention) we have:
- 6 written pieces
- 84 visual art pieces that were in my computer folder.
- 19 comic pages/strips
- 10 music pieces
- 2 long-running WIPs
- 1 spiritual crisis
i realise how actually wild that is that i managed to make all that in a year. lol. especially while also actively in mental health recovery, dealing with stupid medical shit, and continuing to survive through a pandemic. i know i can't expect the exact same next year but i am proud of what i made this year, and i am excited to try new challenges and just see what i can make.
